Surviving a long distance relationship

Hello everyone! As some of you may know I went back to uni last weekend, this of course meant saying goodbye to friends and family which was hard enough, but the hardest goodbye was with my boyfriend Joe. Now I don’t want this post to be soppy and sick-in-mouth inducing by any means I just wanted to go over how Joe and I deal with being apart and how I feel about the situation I am in.

I’ll give you a little insight, Joe and I met last year on a night out while I was back home for my 19th birthday and then after a month of a lot of facetime and a visit by him to Cheltenham we got together just before Christmas.  When I am at uni I see Joe around every 3-6 weeks for a few days at a time.

My first piece of advice is organise when you are going to see each other in advance, when Joe comes to stay we either sort it then when he is next coming or the next few times. This helps me because then I know when I am seeing him next and I have something to look forward to.

Make the most of your time together, just do things you enjoy and just really appreciate the days you have together. Being away from someone really does make you appreciate them a lot more, as cliché as it sounds, absence does make the heart grow fonder.

When they’re not around just get on with normal life. Saying goodbye is always the hardest part, I cry whenever I leave or Joe leaves but the next day when I am back into normal life it gets easier. It helps time go quicker, and next thing you know it’s only a couple weeks until you see them again.

Make the most of the technology we have now, we are so lucky to live in a time where we can facetime and be in contact a lot easier. People say social media and the internet is killing relationships but if you use it in the right way it doesn’t.

I remember being told constantly that a relationship could never survive through university, ‘you can’t have a boyfriend at uni’ was a phrase I heard regularly. But it can and it will if you’re with the right person and you make it work between the two of you.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks post and I hope it was helpful to anyone feeling a little worried about their relationship through university or living apart from their boyfriend/girlfriend.
