They say the best things in life are free, and we all love free things, right? Shops giving out free samples, clubs and bars with free entry, competitions to win a free holiday. We enjoy these things because we gain without losing anything in exchange, but guess what else comes free? Kindness.
So why is it we are so quick to sign up to these deals but we live in a world that finds it so hard to be kind to one another. I’m not saying kindness is going to create world peace, stop all the wars, the crime and hate. But it will cost you nothing today if you decide to be kind to someone, compliment your friend, help your mum/dad out, be there for someone in need.
Now I know you can’t be everyone’s friend, people won’t like you and you won’t like people, and that’s okay. But rather than letting anger and spite get the better of you, bite your tongue and turn the other cheek. My mum always told me; if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Now, as cliché as that phrase is, it is one of the best pieces of advice she has given me.
It may cost nothing to be nasty as well as nice but every action adds to your character and the person you are. So please just take a moment to think of the type of person you want to be, someone spreading hate and negativity or a person who has learnt the value of manners and kindness. So next time you find yourself going to type a nasty tweet, comment on that ‘ugly outfit’ that girl you hate is wearing or go out of your way to be nasty in any approach, just remember it will cost you nothing to keep that spite in and be kind to the people you do care about.
