I could write this to you personally, where I know no one else could see it. I could write this in a diary where not even your eyes could read it. I could keep it in the back of my mind where even I could leave it. But why? This is a place for me to write and express whatever I like and I would love the world (or the few people that read this blog) to know how special you are too.
Over the past nineteen years you have put up with my childish tantrums, petty sibling rivalry, tears over boys whose names I can barely remember now and plenty more. Through it all you have been a shoulder to cry on and a voice of reason, despite not always following your advice.
You are a woman who has taken care of me from grazed knees through to the stress of university. I remember the time when we went to the Isle of Wight, I was around 4, I fell over at the zoo and cut my knee. You gave me a plaster, kissed it better and I didn’t leave your side for the rest of the afternoon. Now, even though I’m miles away you are still my first call when I am in trouble, when I didn’t know if I could defrost bread in the microwave, I called you. When I have had argument with someone, you are the first person I go to. Whenever something goes wrong you are the first person to go to, you are always ready to look after me. I know over the past few years I haven’t been around as much, because of uni and because of being busy, but please know I will always be the first at your side if you need me, as you have done for me my whole life.
Most of all, this post is to say thank you, thank you for all you have done, from bringing me into this world to listening to me moan on the phone for hours. For working your job and then coming home to continue working for us, you are truly mesmerising. You are someone to admire and a woman I am proud to call my mother. Thank you for shaping me into the person I am today and thank you for everything you do for me.
Happy Mother’s day
Love Lauren x
