As we all know Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, I can bet a number of internal groans came after reading that sentence. Yes this Wednesday is in Valentine’s Day and single or not, no one can escape the commercial harassment of sparkly red hearts and fluffy teddy bears that say ‘I love you.’ I have never been a huge fan of Valentine’s Day myself, but I have learnt whether you’re in a relationship or not, it can be enjoyed or at least endured.
My favourite valentine’s day was actually spent single, me and another single friend of mine, Harry, decided to spend the 14th February 2016 together. I volunteered to work that day, being single it wasn’t like I had a lot of plans, so I met him after my shift and our ‘romantic’ evening began. We both invested in the novelties of cards for each other, there was pink, glitter and love hearts, that’s all you need to know. We decided as two incompetent bakers to make brownies, which surprisingly turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. We then proceeded to get tipsy on wine, dance our way around his kitchen and gossip on the sofa. A night of simple pleasures such as wine, home-made brownies and laughter made an often intolerable day, enjoyable. So please if you’re stressing about what to do for someone don’t. Good company and the little things go a long way.
The reason this was my favourite valentine’s day isn’t because I’m a bitter single person, because I have had good valentine’s day with boyfriends in the past, and I am looking forward to this valentine’s day with my boyfriend. The reason is because I spent it with someone I truly love and who makes me laugh. In all honesty, Valentine’s Day is just another day, so don’t get put down because you’re single, grab your single friends and have a night out, or in, and if you’re alone in your singledom run yourself a bubble bath, grab a takeaway, treat yourself!
Happy Valentine’s day x
